Tate House. Tate House was built in for Captain George Tate () and his family, who had recently arrived in the Colonies from England. Tate served as the Senior Mast Agent for the British Royal Navy, overseeing the cutting and shipping of white pines from Maine to England.

Such an interesting career--acquire and ship white pines for use as masts for Royal Navy and merchant ships. Really enjoyed learning about the Tates, the mast trade, pre-Revolutionary Portland, and of course this beautifully preserved house.
